Sparking is an obvious concern in areas where flammable gas or liquid is present and these areas require strict safety measures to prevent static electricity from build-up and discharge. ESD events can also frequently occur without a visible or audible spark and can severely damage sensitive electronic components and assemblies. Some components can be damaged by discharges as little as 30V. These invisible forms of ESD can cause labs and production manufacturing device failures and imperceptible forms of degradation that may affect reliability and performance of sensitive surface mounted electronics.

Test ESD Flooring to Protect Your Equipment and Devices from ESD

Detect, monitor, and measure static electricity and voltage generation in workplace environments to ensure compliance with leading ESD standards.

The AEMC® Megohmmeter Model 6536 ESD Floor Kit is designed for testing both point-to-ground and point-to-point electrostatic discharge on flooring systems. The kit supports compliance with major U.S., Canadian, international, and military standards, including:

  • ANSI/ESD STM 7.1 – Flooring Systems Resistive Characterization
  • ANSI/ESD STM 97.1 – Floor Materials and Footwear Resistance in Combination with a Person
  • ANSI/ESD STM 11.11 – Surface Resistance Measurement of Static Dissipative Planar Materials
  • ASTM F150 – Electrical Resistance of Conductive and Static Dissipative Resilient Flooring
  • IEC 61340-4-1 – International Standard for Floor Resistance Testing
  • MIL-STD-1686 – U.S. Military ESD Control Program

Simple testing procedure: place the two included 5-lb NFPA probes three feet apart on the flooring surface, apply a known voltage, and record the resistance value. The Model 6536 determines whether results fall within acceptable ranges for the applicable standards.

The complete field kit includes everything you need for professional ESD floor compliance testing:

  • Rugged field case
  • Megohmmeter Model 6536
  • (2) 5-lb (2.3 kg) floor weights (NFPA probes) with conductive rubber bases, compliant with EOS/ESD 11.11
  • (2) 5-ft color-coded (red/black) leads
  • (2) color-coded (red/black) alligator clips
  • Black test probe
  • (2) color-coded (red/black) grip probes
  • (2) 4-mm non-insulated adapters
  • (6) AA batteries
  • User manual
