It's designed to reduce risk or severity of an injury and give the saw operator extra reaction time when contact is made by a moving chain. Protective chainsaw chaps should never be considered safer than proper chainsaw handling safety procedures. Always check with your manual for chainsaw safety guidance. Tool/Gear pocket.
